Gravesend

Sevenoaks Ladies 3s went out yesterday determined to continue their unbeaten run of 2010 and their push for promotion to East Division One South.  They started the game strongly and were soon putting plenty of pressure on the Gravesend defence.  Several shots whizzed past both posts and despite wining plenty of short corners, these were unfortunately not converted by Sevenoaks during the first half.   Sevenoaks also commanded the middle of the pitch too with team juniors Jess Deniff, Maddie Thompson, Helen Foss and Celia Gore linking up really well, and putting together some fabulous patterns of play. However it was Gravesend who went ahead before half time completely against the run of play.  The ball was just not cleared cleanly from defence by Sevenoaks and Gravesend pounced on this and in the end much to Oaks’s disappointment scored an extremely soft goal.  Sevenoaks came out in the second half determined to make amends and literally attacked for the whole of the half.  They launched attack after attack down both sides and through the middle, but Gravesend just packed out their defence and made it so hard to score.  Eventually a penetrating run from Helen Foss, saw a pass to Maddy Thompson who made no mistake in slipping the ball past the stranded keeper to at last bring the scores level.  Oaks never gave up and just continued to desperately try and score a goal.  Great play was seen again from Jess Deniff and some fine attacking moves were initiated made down the right hand side by defenders Fran Walton and Mary Smith.  Sevenoaks had a multitude of short corners, but again despite numerous shots being taken, they did not mange to convert a single one into that much deserved second goal, and so at the final whistle and scores remained level leaving Oaks with just one point, despite a huge effort by everyone to continue on their winning streak.
