Sevenoaks Mens 8th team continued their poor run with a 6-1 defeat at Wellcome. Hampered from the off by being a man short Oaks managed to look threatening early doors with Rob House, James Side and Simon Clare dominant in midfield. But the home team's trigger happy scoring ace was given too much room by sluggish Chris Hix on the left and fired them to an early lead despite gymnastic keeping by skipper Tim Gore. A second quickly followed from a fortunate deflection. Upfront combative Ed Gore was pressing hard, Nigel Holmes probed down the right and Oliver Rice drew defenders to him like locusts. But Wellcome broke away again and added a third to give Oaks a mountain to climb in the second half.

 

Oaks dug deep and turned round with determination, but neat passing in narrow confines soon gave Wellcome a fourth. Fine work from defenders Pieter Booyse and John Taylor snuffed out further attacks but Oaks struggled to retain possession and gifted a fifth to the home team as the lack of the 11th man told. Still not downhearted, Oaks kept attacking and finally found reward after flowing flashes from Gore, Clare, House and Holmes as rangy Rice crashed home a shot to make it 5-1. The visitors continued to press forward optimistically but still defended too generously and allowed Wellcome a final hurrah past battered but unbowed keeper Gore
