CONGRATULATIONS! Promoted as WINNERS to Kent Premier Division

END OF SEASON REPORT

Sevenoaks Acorns, what can I say - 9 promotions in 10 years is a good place to start. This year having dropped back into Kent league division 1 after a season in the East, in order to be able to bring on and develop our up and coming juniors, we to a large extent started from scratch.

 With Fran Walton and Sarah Burnham electing to stay with us and Alana Giles and then Michele Harvey, Ellie Rosier and Alex Fearn joining us over the initial weeks and Ellie Desmond and Sarah Crosley making a number of important appearances, the over 16s in the squad were complete. we added to the squad a whole bunch of exciting new junior talent all of whom were playing senior hockey for the first time and all of whom were 15 or younger at the start of the season including one U14. For most of our games we usually had 10 or so juniors in the squad. Congratulations to Alana who scored two hat tricks the second in our final game which we had to win to win the league. And to the many others who between them scored some amazing open play goals.

Thanks to Jane for being with me on the side line, for her warm ups, her timekeeping and for being taxi driver extraordinaire even though she never knows the way despite having a state of the art "sat nav". Special thanks to Sarah who delivered outstanding service to the team and the club as our pool umpire in Kent, often having to dash from, or to, our games to umpire. She was also pretty awesome on the pitch with an energy and skill level that sets an unparalleled example to our youngsters.

 Junior player of season was very difficult as most juniors earned the accolade at least once in the season. But having canvassed the views of the seniors, the unanimous decision was that two players deserved a highly commended as they had improved exponentially during the season, Alex Fearn and Lizzie Mayes. So that leaves the outstanding junior of the 2011-12 season, as voted by the senior players, our one and only Jenny Kelly Last, but definitely not least, our senior player of the season. Whilst there were far fewer names to choose from, the unanimous decision of all the junior girls, for her attitude, support and sheer talent on and off the pitch, Fran Walton.

Grateful thanks to the mums and dads for their support and for ferrying the girls to and from our games, to the umpires without whom we wouldn't be able to play the game and to the selection committee for their attention and encouragement throughout the season.  Karen Taylor, Coach, manager and one time player
